The award goes to "a state tournament participant that strongly represents the values, characteristics and traits that defined Herb Brooks."

Both Parker and Hardwick are seniors.

“Anyone that knows Landon would describe him as a leader both on and off the ice,” Senior High coach Tyler Palmiscno said in a statement to the Minnesota State High School League. “In the classroom, he is No. 1 in his class with a lifetime 4.0 grade point average. He leads by example and serves his community as a student leader and volunteer for his church youth group. Landon also helps the elderly in his neighborhood with yardwork and snow removal.

“Landon is extremely dedicated and committed to being his best self and is truly a leader on and off the ice. He puts his own personal goals aside for the good of the team. . . . He has worked extremely hard and was described by one of his coaches as the 'most dedicated and driven hockey player I have ever had the opportunity to coach.' His commitment and dedication have served Landon well in his hockey career.”

Parker, a senior, had an opportunity to leave high school hockey and play in the junior ranks this season. He signed a tender with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League when the Minnesota high school season was up in the air because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Once the prep season was set, Parker abandoned any ideas of playing junior hockey.

"I didn't really want to think about it," Parker said. "But I knew I needed a backup plan. At the time, it was a big possibility. But I had a really bitter taste from last year and I couldn't give it up."

Parker returned to high school and had a big senior season, leading the Green Wave back to the state tournament.

He led the team in goals (23), assists (24) and points (47).

Parker was particularly clutch in the playoffs, where he racked up 15 points in five games. He tallied a goal and five points in Senior High's 5-4 overtime win over Warroad in the Section 8A championship game to earn a trip to the state tournament.

Parker had two goals and three points in an 8-1 quarterfinal win over Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato. In a 5-3 semifinal loss to undefeated state champion Gentry Academy, Parker had two assists.

Hardwick, meanwhile, led the Warriors to the state tournament. She had eight goals and 22 points in 22 games this season for Warroad.

Hardwick scored Warroad's lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Proctor/Hermantown in the state semifinals.

“Abbey encourages her teammates’ success,” Warroad coach David Marvin said in a statement. “In her role as a team captain, she is admirable and quietly encourages teammates to excel during practices and games. She both respects and recognizes her teammates for their hard work and achievements both on and off the ice. Abbey promotes positive, personable interactions among her teammates. Abbey recognizes friendships are important in team success.

"In her senior year, Abbey has welcomed new members to the team with open arms no matter their age. She spends time with her teammates both on and off the ice. Abbey is fun to be around; she sets a high standard for other students as she makes wise decisions, treats others with compassion, and works hard both in school and sports. Abbey is very approachable and others look to her for guidance.”
