Herb the Triceratops returns to the Witte before heading back home - mySanAntonio.com

Triceratops fans will need to take one last look at "Herb," the Witte's well-known Triceratops, before he heads off to his new home in Montana, according to a press release.

Herb will be on display at the Witte Museum from March 6 through June before returning to the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum in Montana.

"Triceratops is an iconic dinosaur, second only to T. rex in fame, and even through it is sad to see Herb leave us, it is wonderful to know he will be returning home to Montana where he will be on exhibit," said Dr. Thomas Adams, Curator of Paleontology and Geology.

The museum invites their guests to sign a "dino-sized" going away card as Herb prepares for his trip to Montana with everyone wishing him "Happy Trails Herb."

Although Herb has been popular with attendees, he is not a Texas dinosaur because there is no evidence that Triceratops roamed the Lone Star state, according to the press release.

The Witte says Herb, a longtime resident of the Witte's former dinosaur gallery,  got his nickname because the dinosaur is an herbivore. He previously spent time inside the Witte's exhibit halls in 2013. In 2010, he took in some much needed self-care with a trip to a "dino spa" that aligned his elbows and tail to fit newer depictions of the species.
