Alabama basketball senior forward Herb Jones was named a Naismith Trophy semifinalist Thursday, the only Southeastern Conference player to make the list.
Jones was also named to the Naismith Defensive Player Semifinalist list in late February and is one of just two players in the nation, along with Southern California freshman Evan Mobley, to be named to both the Defensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year lists.

Despite being slowed by a mid-season back injury, Jones, a Greensboro native who played at Hale County High School, is having the best offensive season of his four-year Alabama career, averaging 11 points while shooting 44.9 percent.
He also leads the regular-season SEC champion Crimson Tide in assists (3.1 per game), three-point shooting at 45.5 percent (20 of 44) and offensive rebounds per game (2.0), while also shooting a single-season career-best 74 percent from the foul line (71-of-96). He also leads UA with six games of five or more assists this season.
The Naismith Award is sponsored annually by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club.
