Bobby C. "Herb" Spidel, 91 - The Daily Record

SAINT FRANCISVILLE — Bobby C. “Herb” Spidel, born to Clyde and Lovellah (Sheridan) Spidel in St. Francisville on March 17, 1929, passed away on Dec. 2, 2020 in Lawrenceville.

He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Keneipp, Sept. 11, 1948. They were married nearly 27 years until her death on June 28, 1975. Together, they had three children: Susan Gayle Billingsley, Elizabeth Jane Benson and Robert Craig Spidel.

On Jan. 2, 1976, he married Betty Freshour Martin. They too were married 27 years until her death. Upon their marriage, Herb gained three step-daughters: Mary Alice Martin, Janet Johnson and Sherri Frederick.

Herb was a man of many trades. He worked for the New York Central Railroad, owned a Texaco Service Station, and a pool hall in St. Francisville before joining the pipe trades in 1965. Upon his retirement, he worked for Indian Refinery as a guard and later for Cunningham Funeral Home. He was a member of the St. Francisville Christian Church for 55 years. He was also a member of The Scottish Rite.

Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Susan Gayle Billingsley of Lawrenceville; and Elizabeth Jane Benson and husband John of Lawrenceville; one son, Robert Craig Spidel of St. Francisville; five grandchildren, Jason Billingsley and wife Dala; Peyton Billingsley and wife Shelly; Nicholaus Benson and wife Ashley; Dustin Welton Spidel and wife Jackie; and Hayli Brock and husband Dillon; three step-grandchildren, Sommer Phipps and husband John; Lucas Johnson; and Kelly Kovacev; and numerous very loved great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his wives, Betty Jean Keneipp Spidel and Betty Freshour Martin; step-daughter, Janet Johnson; son-in-law, Larry Billingsley; step-granddaughter, Ashley Zaehringer; his parents; one sister; and one brother.

A graveside service to honor Bobby C. “Herb” Spidel will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020 at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Cunningham Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
