ST. PAUL — Herbert R. “Herb” Moses, 83, of St. Paul passed away at 9:55 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, at Post-Acute Specialty Hospital in Tulsa.

Herbert Russell Moses was born on Aug. 15, 1937, to James William and Bertha Catherine (Kennedy) Moses in the family home at St. Paul. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul, graduating from St. Francis Catholic High School in 1955.

On Oct. 1, 1957, Herb and Doris Jean Bradshaw were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. They lived in Texas for a short time before moving to Parsons. He worked for a boat manufacturing plant in Parsons for several years and then worked at Dayton Superior in Parsons. He was the plant manager for Charloma in Cherryvale for 10 years. Later, he worked for Beachner Construction in the carpentry shop and also owned and operated his own fiberglass business. 

He had been a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and extended family. He also enjoyed fishing, smoking meats and restoring his 1940 Ford.

Doris Jean preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2016.

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Trotnic of Parsons; two grandchildren, Kasey Edmond of Parsons and Michael Kasum Trotnic of Glenpool, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Jaden Armstrong, Colby Armstrong, Ava Edmond, Camron Edmond and Brightyn Trotnic; a sister, Charlotte Mae Moses of St. Paul; brothers-in-law Jerry Beachner and Lawrence Bradshaw; sister-in-law Peggy Easom; brothers and sisters-in-law Lynda and Dwight “Bud” Lynn and Brad and Linda Bradshaw; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Moses; his parents; a son, Timothy Moses, on Feb. 25, 2020; two brothers, James A. Moses, who died the day before Herb, and Lloyd Moses; a stillborn sister, Allie Moses; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence “Pete” and Pauline Bradshaw; brothers-in-law Joe Tastove and James Easom; brother and sister-in-law Felix and Ruth O’Brien; sisters-in-law Catherine Moses and Janey Beachner; nephews Jody Beachner and Ben O’Brien; and great-niece and great-nephew Leslie and Alex Treiber.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Seating will be restricted. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at 7:30 p.m. following the rosary. The rosary and the funeral Mass can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to the Prairie Mission Retirement Village activity fund and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
