“As a family and team, we have spent years taking care of the land and fine-tuning what we cultivate at Rising Fawn Gardens. Growing turmeric began by happenstance, but soon became our specialty along with ginger and other medicinal plants,” said Karen Persinger, co-owner at RFG. “Our product collections are a natural evolution from learning about the plants to growing, harvesting and developing nourishing and nutritious consumable herbal teas and spices. It brings us great pleasure to offer this bounty of goodness from the gardens and hands at RFG to the public.”
Spice Collection
The Spice Collection is a labor of love from start to finish. The process starts with planting curcumin-dense rhizomes indoors in late winter then moving the plants outdoors to a hoop house in late spring. As the plants grow throughout the summer and fall, they are carefully weeded, watered, and monitored. When the weather shifts to freezing temperatures, the harvest begins. By this point, each turmeric plant has grown to over 6 feet tall and the rhizomes of each plant spread a foot across. The rhizomes are carefully unearthed, washed, set on racks to air dry, dehydrated and ground into turmeric powder in small batches in our certified kitchen. The ground turmeric and our handcrafted spice blend are then packaged and available for purchase.
Tisane Collection
Dried Herb Collection
In 2019, the Medicinal Garden at RFG came to life as each plant started from seed or purchased from a local source, or transplanted from our own wooded areas, was gently put in the cultivated soil. The leaves, flowers, and roots of a variety of herbs are harvested by hand and dried in small batches at low temperatures to retain the nutritious and medicinal properties. Each herb is packaged in 2oz compostable resealable bags and can be used to create tea infusions, tinctures, salves, and other medicinal and culinary preparations. The herbs are limited stock and seasonal. Herbs currently available for individual purchase include chaste tree berries, lemon balm, hibiscus, tulsi holy basil, spilanthes and more.
