Herb-infused simple syrups are a great way to add flavor to beverages and foods and they could not be easier to make.
Step #1 — Add 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to a saucepan.
Step #2 — add your herb or other flavoring. But choose just one. Combining flavors is not recommended. For example, for a simple syrup ratio of one cup sugar and one cup water, you may choose to add:
- 4-5 fresh basil leaves (torn)
- sprig of fresh rosemary (roughly chopped)
- 3-4 oz. peeled and roughly chopped fresh ginger root
- 5-6 fresh mint leaves (torn)
- 1 jalapeño other hot pepper variety
Step #3 — bring mixture to boil on high heat. Once mixture comes to boil, whisk constantly until all sugar is dissolved. About 1-2 minutes.
Step #4 — Remove from heat and set pan aside to cool (about 40 min) Once simple syrup is completely cooled, use a strainer and pour into glass jars for storage. Label and store in refrigerator when not in use.
Herb-infused simple syrups can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
