The Rotary Club of Ville Platte ended its brief stint of July meetings by hearing from Dr. Courtney Phillips, the Louisiana Secretary of Health. Dr. Phillips addressed the club via telephone and went over a PowerPoint presentation that outlined the status of COVID-19 here in Louisiana.
The Rotarians then kicked off their August meeting on Tuesday of this week as they heard from Kayla McFarlain Kincancon, an herbalist and integrated life coach.
Kincancon first got interested in herbal medicine as a young mother when her son was suffering from an ear infection. After about three months of taking her son to the doctor, it was realized the infection was viral not bacterial.
“Because he had been inundated with so many antibodies,” Kincanon said, “his white blood cells started to destroy his platelets. At that point, I decided I didn’t want to put that kind of responsibility to fix my kid on doctors anymore. I just started researching different options that work.”
Since then, Kincancon began her own business and has been sharing what she learned with others online and by telephone. She is now in the process of opening a physical location to her business here in Ville Platte. The location will be at the old Lavergne Insurance building and will open within the next four to six weeks.
As Kincanon explained, herbal medicine “works with your body and goes to the cause of the symptoms as opposed to hiding the symptoms.” She added, “herbal medicine doesn’t cure anything but works with your body to heal itself.”
Kincanon, then, went on to explain about being a life coach. “A life coach, in general, is someone who provides tools on how to manage your mindset,” she said. “It puts you back in control of the outcome of your own life.”
“The integrated side takes into account all facets of your life not just the mental and emotional state,” she continued. “It takes into account things like your financial, professional, spiritual, social, and intellectual state to be able to create a whole picture.”
She continued, “As you move forward with your prospective changes and decision making, you are doing it from an aligned perspective.
